I. Introduction
A. I’ve been using PowerPoint slides and CALI lessons in some of my classes for the past couple of years.
B. By trial and error I’ve learned some lessons about what works and what doesn’t – at least for me.
C. I have found some things that work, but I have also found that it can dampen class participation, so you need to be thoughtful

Interdisciplinary Work Conference of Small Business and
Transactional Clinicians
Kansas City, April 15, 2005
One thing I’ve always tried to communicate to my students is the idea that in order to be an effective business lawyer one must know something about business.
We all know that quite often the ostensibly “legal” problem that a client faces is in reality more of a business problem or a family problem than it is a legal problem. Of course, the problem has a legal dimension, but addressing that one dimension will not sole the problem.
And of course, I think the highest aspiration for a business lawyer is to be a problem solver. Unfortunately, the structure of the university and even the law school curriculum makes it difficult to define problems in their broad and multi-disciplinary contexts.
For the past couple of years I’ve been trying to get around this problem by teaching my Small Business Clinic as a co-listed and co-taught course with our business school. It is a work in progress, but I’ll share with you some of the things I’ve learned along the way.
