Sensors from Global Water Instrumentation Programming Algorithm Designed an office user interface with RT observation of data and potential problems 9XStream-PKG-E RF Modem: optimal wireless communications device Abstract Client needs water quality data on water quality of San Diego River while implementing their reclamation project EM Team’s Objectives: immediate data and analysis design, build, and deploy a remote self sustained water quality monitoring device Methods Manually collect chemical and physical data at various sites. Design wireless water quality sensing prototype Program datalogger (LabVIEW) Develop user-friendly interfaces Design a structural system to mount/protect hardware componen... -Everything needs to be bolded - makes it easier to see. -My changes are a lot, so go through the whole poster to find them. -Summary should be broken down into three sections (you have them like that, but will be easier to read and skim for the audience. -YOU CAN ALSO COMBINE MISSION AND GOALS SECTION -TRY PLAYING AROUND WITH MOVING THE FIGURES AROUND. -METHODS ARE MORE LIKE GOALS, YOUR DECISION - I LIKE IT, BUT THIS WAS A COMMENT BY THE TA -I changed the logo and added the Lakeside logo opposite your logo. -I used my prototype picture because it is prettier - your call -I tried to cut down on some of the language in the Client’s needs section, so added “client: Lakeside Conservancy” under the title for clarification -That brings me to the title: it should be descriptive”Environmental Monitoring Team brings needed water quality monitoring system to Lakeside Conservancy non-profit” RESULTS: -Need to bold the sites - I made text boxes to go over the site numbers (I think you just cut and pasted the picture, so this is the best and easiest alternative). BOLD & bigger font as I have them -Again, descriptive titles for graphs and text to go with them for what is happening. For example: TITLE: Dissolved O2 is not a stable parameter across sites. Description below graph: Dissolved O2 only stayed constant as site 4. The dissolved Oxygen at all sites decreased on 4/28/05. Maybe you need to convert your numbers. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE GRAPHS WHEN I GET BACK - THERE ARE T...

Monthly Trends – Graphs highlight data fluctuation over the past month. Entire History – Allows user to view chronological record of all data. Future Work Upgrade the interface to web based format Establish database for long-term data collection. User Interface Architecture Objective Design a graphical user-interface with LabVIEW to allow the client to view and interact with the data collected by the system. Water Quality Evaluation Need for more data to establish trends and provide answers to water quality concerns 15 months obtained to date Future use of statistical analysis software will allow for hypothesis testing Testing of 7 key parameters: pH, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Total Dissolved Solids, Electrical Conductivity, Phosphates & Nitrates Six Important evaluation sites in and near Lakeside portion of San Diego River Site 5 represents prototype deployment location Prototype conduit setup (black tubing). In hand: temperature and conductivity sensors with attached foam ring (white)...

The parameters are: pH*, Temperature*, Dissolved Oxygen*, Total Dissolved Solids*, Electrical Conductivity*, Phosphates & Nitrates Provide accurate comparison data for both the client and the monitoring station Anchor 3 Objective To provide baseline water quality data To analyze existing data to determine contamination sources Conclusions Some chemical properties of the San Diego River are below federal standards Monitoring station is near final completion and will be ready for final deployment Project objectives To provide manual water testing services To construct a remote sensing, solar powered water monitoring s...

C Middle School Environmental Education Our Mission: Promote science and engineering interest in middle school girls How Do We Accomplish This? Apply engaging interactive educational techniques to environmental issues, such as air pollution from the recent SD fires Showcase positive, young female and minority role models in Science and Engineering MAKE LEARNING FUN County Wide Network of PM Sensors Particulate Matter (PM) – tiny particles of solid or liquid suspended in a gas Increased levels of PM are linked to heart disease, lung cancer, respiratory illnesses & climate change Networked PM sensors MOUNTED ON MIDDLE SCHOOLS will allow students to compare air-quality data How Our Particulate Matter Sensor Works Mounting PM Sensor on the Preuss School Collaborative Educational Game Classroom Outreach Low cost PM sensor modified for outdoor use: weather-proof enclosure built with heating coil to remove moisture and fan installed to draw particulates Will be mounted on the Preuss School for initial testing Particulates enter sensor and scatter laser beam Receptor detects scattered light and registers particle concentration Acknowledgments & References Interactive Website For Students: Student-to-student forums Data mapping tool provides access to sensor network For Teachers: Lesson plan database Handheld sensor tech support Players collaborate to complete missions focused on environmental awareness Game developed in conjunction with SDSC Member...
