History of Collection Information System Development at the MVZ

1979-1997: 3 major MVZ collections computerized (amphibians/reptiles, mammals, birds) TAXIR used for collection management (mainframe system developed at U. Michigan for botanical collections) 1995-1997: Stan Blum hired to develop data model for new collection management system John Wieczorek hired to write code to implement highest priority components of data model 1998-2006: Data model implemented and used at MVZ with Versata (PC-based software) and Sybase (DBA support from MIP) MVZ data model implemented at Univ. Alaska Museum in 2000 2006: Transition to Arctos Collection Management System - developed at University of Alaska Museum in 2002 Arctos tested with Postgres, used with Oracle Still in development phase, expected public release Jan 2007 – THANKS TO IS&T TEAMS!!!
