Hypothesis test with t – Exercise 1

Step 1: State the hypotheses H0: m = 50 H1 = 50 Step 2: Locate critical region 2 tail test, a = .05, df = 25 -1 =24 tcritical = + 2.064 Step 3: Compute test statistic t = (M – m)/sM sM = s/ = 6/5 = 1.2 = (54 – 50)/1.2 = 3.33 Step 4: Make a decision Since the t statistic for our mean is in the critical region (3.33 > 2.064), we reject H0 and conclude that there is a significant treatment effect.
