SUNY Maritime College is a maritime college located in the Bronx, New York City in historic Fort Schuyler on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Founded in 1874, the SUNY Maritime College was the first college of its kind (federally approved, offering commercial nautical instruction) to be founded in the United States.

Luce Library aboard Training Ship Empire State VI Maritime College, State University of New York, USA Introductions: CC: Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, it is our honor to be invited to the 10th Annual General Assembly. and to present among such distinguished company of Maritime Scholars. We would like to thank the host academy for their hospitality and the opportunity to witness the beauty of this magnificent city. We are indeed grateful! SF: our presentation “Library Afloat: Educating Maritime Students at Sea through Library Services” describes our ship’s library operations in support of the SST courses taught at sea. My colleague Constantia Constantinou, is the Library Director and the Academic Chair of the library department. She has the overall responsibility for successfully delivering library services to all students, faculty and staff at SUNY Maritime College ashore and aboard our training ship. CC: Mr. Shafeek Fazal is the librarian responsible for library information and research services. He is also in charge of getting the ship’s library “cruise-ready” for 9 weeks at sea. Our presentation describes how the ship’s library stays on course with the college’s strategic directions and demonstrates how a successful library support enhances the maritime student education at sea.

Luce Library at Fort Schuyler Maritime College, The State University of New York Navigate Your Course @Your Library Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the presentation “Community at the Crossroads” I would like to thank the California Maritime Academy for being our host, and the International Association of Maritime Universities for the professional opportunity to be a part of the 9th Annual Assembly. It is my honor to be in your company this morning. My name is Constantia Constantinou, I am the library director of the Stephen B. Luce Library of SUNY Maritime College. The theme of the presentation is about strengthening the Maritime Community through library service, scholarship, tradition and access. The presentation will demonstrate how the Luce Library redefined its organizational identity in order to support and empower the Maritime Community.
