Dublin City University (DCU) is a university situated between Glasnevin, Ballymun and Whitehall on the Northside of Dublin in Ireland. The administration of IM injections is a core nursing skill but a complex psychomotor task The literature shows that practice was varied and inconsistent Research shows that a significant number of IM injections are ineffective due to poor technique Site selection has a significant impact on the absorption of medications administered via this route What? Nurse Practice Development developed a new IM administration policy The key messages of the policy were: Guidance for all 5 injection sites Appropriate Needle Size Z tracking technique Defined the ventrogluteal site and identified it as an additional site and the site of choice within AMNCH Provided education with an initial uptake reaching almost 400 nursing staff How? Presentation to senior nursing management and clinical nursing staff Informal talks on each clinical area Identification of support network for nursing staff by training of link nurses for each clinical area Educations sessions for 30 mins 4 times weekly for one month What next? Evaluation of effectiveness of link nurse role and education process Audit of policy use Review of change process

When you install and run this programme, it enables you to to install Apache Server, PHP and MySQL. You can then set up a database for Moodle to use. There is a bit of work in this but it’s a nice exercise.
