Middlebury College

Middlebury College is a private liberal arts college located in Middlebury, Vermont, United States. Founded in 1800, it is one of the oldest liberal arts colleges in the United States. Middlebury is the first American institution of higher education known to have granted a bachelor's degree to an African-American, graduating Alexander Twilight in the class of 1823. Middlebury was also one of the first formerly all-male liberal arts colleges in New England to become a coeducational institution, following the trustees' decision, in 1883, to accept women.

Modeling Color Changes Between Cameras Using a Large Database of Registered Images

Modeling Color Changes Between Cameras Using a Large Database of Registered Images

Abstract Image matching has many important applications, including 3D reconstruction and robot navigation. If images are taken by different cameras or at different times of day, the colors can change considerably. The goal of this work was to investigate ways to model such color changes. We created a test database of registered images while changing camera model, illumination, viewing angle, white balance, and exposure. We investigated various image registration techniques and wrote a script to align large batches of images using the GDB-ICP algorithm. We created six datasets consisting of over 1200 images. Using C++ and Matlab, we built several tools to experiment with different color models. We used two-dimensional histograms to visualize color changes and investigated different curve-fitting techniques to model the histograms. Our results show that the color changes are smooth but nonlinear, and that color channels cannot be modeled separately. Realistic color models will become increasingly important for matching images from online photo collections; we hope that our database and initial findings will be valuable to future research in this area. Kelvin Gorekore Motivation While color should be helpful for image matching, different cameras and lighting conditions introduce complex color changes Goals Create a large dataset of images taken by different cameras while changing viewpoint, lighting, white balance, and exposure Accurately model color changes...

Introductions Experience – major issue you are dealing with Expectations for the workshop – what do you want to take away? Framing the issue – Much ado about nothing or ostriches? Part of a complex environment in which we operate – one factor. Others that play into the demographic issues– income and gender – not very well articulated. Things to think about: What is the environment in which we operate – need to understand your individual states and surrounding states are regions. All five sectors impact each other within each state – career colleges, community college, state colleges, flagship universities, privates at all levels. All compete against each other and sometimes within sectors. Use tools to figure out who your competitors are:
