La actual Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, también conocida por sus siglas UPSA (o UPSAM en el caso del campus de Madrid), tiene el mismo origen que la Universidad de Salamanca, aunque hoy en día son dos instituciones diferentes. La primera es privada, la otra es estatal. Da una fecha de fundación James Trager en People's Chronology : 1134. Esto la convierte en la cuarta universidad más antigua de la historia europea.
The Pontifical University of Salamanca (in Spanish: Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, UPSA) is an offshoot of the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain, resulting from the Spanish government's dissolution of the University of Salamanca's faculties of Theology and Canon Law in 1854. Pope Pius XII later re-founded the faculties, establishing around them a different university run under the auspices of the Holy See on 25 September 1940 Additional faculties and schools were added at later dates.
