Clark University

Clark University is a private research university and liberal arts college in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1887, it is the oldest educational institution founded as an all-graduate university. Clark now also educates undergraduates. It is one of only three New England universities, along with Harvard and Yale, to be a founding member of the Association of American Universities.

In short, the present study, although limited, suggests that there may be some implicit prejudice, but it is not very strong. Limitations: The first major setback was being unable to test participants using the well-established Implicit Association Task. This added aspect of the original design would have further illuminated the merit of the newly created measurement. Other considerations concern the details of the test. The actual advertisement used to portray the straight couple was in fact an advertisement selling Winston cigarettes. This may have confounded the results because participants may have been reacting to the purpose of the advertisement instead of to the content of it. Lastly, the number of participants could have been increased. There were numerous occasions where the significance was marginal, and an increased n may have increased the power of the study, thereby pushing those numbers hinting at significance into significance. INFLUENCE OF RAMSAUER EFFECT ON BOUNDED PLASMAS IN MAGNETIC FIELDS N. Sternberg and C. Sataline, Clark University, Worcester, MA, USA V. Godyak, RF Plasma Consulting, Brookline, MA, USA

Abstract. A study of the fluid model for cylindrical weakly ionized quasi-neutral plasmas in an axial magnetic field is presented. The model takes into account ionization, ion and electron inertia, as well as frictional forces for ions and electrons. Two cases for the electron frictional forces are considered: with the Ramsauer effect and without the Ramsauer effect, while the ion frictional force is defined by the charge exchange process. For each case, the behavior of the plasma parameters for arbitrary magnitudes of the magnetic field, gas pressure and plasma size is presented, making the model applicable for a wide range of discharge conditions and gases. A magnetic field parameter is introduced, which specifies a parameter range for the magnetic field, gas pressure and plasma size where the Boltzmann equilibrium with the ambipolar field for the electron distribution is satisfied. A parametric relation for the magnetic field, gas pressure and plasma size is obtained, which separates the region of weak magnetic field effects from the region of strong magnetic field effects. In addition, analytical transformations between the corresponding parameters with and without the Ramsauer effect are obtained. Radius of the cylinder: R Ion an electron cyclotron radii: ρi and ρe Ion-atom collision parameter: αi=R/λi Electron-atom collision parameter: αe=(M/m)1/2R/λe Magnetic parameters: β=(Rλe)/(ρiρe), G=0.64(4+αi)-1/2...

The current study examined compatibility among couples in romantic relationships. The results reveal that people who share the same World Hypothesis were the most compatible in comparison with those who did not share the same World Hypothesis. The results also showed the longer the relationship, the more Compatible the world hypotheses of the partners. People in society commonly wonder about what traits make a person and his/her partner a compatible couple. This experiment delves into the question of compatibility. Apparently, everyone has a World Hypothesis, or an approach to life’s situations and events. There are four perspectives on World Hypothesis one can possess; these are Formist, Mechanist, Organist, and Contextualist. The Formist and Mechanist perspectives are common in the Western hemisphere of the world. Formists tend to classify everything they encounter on a basis of similarity and differences by assigning labels and categories to everything. Mechanists tend to view the world as a great machine, where every event has a cause of some sort. When analyzing a situation, they search for an event that caused the situation. Mechanism is the most dominant perspective in Western culture. Organist and Contextualist perspectives are more common in the Eastern hemisphere. Organicists view the world as an organism. As a result, they believe that nothing can be properly analyzed unless it is viewed as part of a whole, or greater body. As a result, when analyzing situa...

Economic Model D (θ) = Doe-γθ Where θ is the distance from the CBD, Do is the population density at the edge of the CBD and γ is the gradient or constant percentage change in the population density per unit change in distance from the CBD (Mieszkowski and Mills, 1993). Presumably, as one gets further and further from the CBD the population density, the number of people living in a given acre will decrease. The density gradient, the slope of the log of the density function, can be used to measure a degree of decentralization in a given area. The more uniform the population density as a function of the distance from the CBD, the smaller the gradient; therefore, decreases in the value of the gradient over time have been taken as increases in decentralization of urban areas. Higher density is an important goal of Portland’s smart growth strategies. Portland is perhaps best known for its urban growth boundary (UGB). The boundary was first established in 1979, and has expanded little since then. The boundary encompasses twenty four cities, parts of three counties; Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties, and approximately 1.3 million people. Under the requirements of Oregon’s land use, land outside the UGB is designated for resource and prohibited from urban development. Land inside and outside the UGB must be planned by the appropriate city or county. The three county region is enforced by the Metropolitan Service District (Metro). Expectations Densities decreasing with...
