TIBORDER-Neu
The German national library for science and technology has asked us to define a new metadata scheme for the new version of their online-library catalogue TIBODER.
They are looking for an alternative for their existing PICA system.
The new scheme should consist of as less attributes as possible to cope with 90% of all queries send to them.
Our approach
PICA Database
1300 categories
TIBORDER TIBORDER-Neu Secondary repository
20 categories
optimized for standard retrieval tasks
Vocabularies (ontologies?)
Status
2nd version of the new schema defined
2nd iteration round with library successful
1st version of TIBORDER-Neu with app. 2,000,000 datasets running
“Mapping rules mountain” roughly visible
New catalogue online: 2007
L3S challenges
TIBORDER-neu gives us the opportunity to establish semantic web technologies in an ultimate testbed:
8,2 million resources
53,000 registered users
9,000 queries per day
Complete logging of queries and results
User adaptation
TIBORDER-Neu might offer the registered user adaptive functionalities:
Sorting results matching to known preferences
Only known languages
Known copyright conditions
Recommender systems
Amazon like query based suggestions:
“Users submitting this query finally ordered ….”
“Users submitting this query were also interested in …”
Publish-subscribe
Registered user can be informed if new volumes of subscribed journals arrive at the TIB, or new books in related areas …
