In this study total 42 patients of chronic cor pulmonale were studied in the Department of Medicine in Bharatpur Hospital. Most common age group was 50-64 years and females were more affected than males. Mean age of the patients was 55 years +/- 11.28 years. Most of them were smokers. Most of the patients were in advanced stage of cardiac involvement at their admission to the hospital. Common symptoms were cough with varying degree of expectoration and breathlessness. Swelling of the body was pr

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To study the clinical profile of the chronic cor-pulmonale patients. To relate the severity of the diseases with pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary arterial pressure measured by Doppler Ecocardiography. To find out correlation among pulmonary function test, arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary arterial pressure.
SUBJECTS AND METHOD
This was cross-sectional study involving 46 consecutive patients who presented in the Emergency , Medical Ward and ICU. Study period was 1 year duration. The screening process included :- Through history and clinical examination E.C.G Chest X-ray PA view Hematology –Hb, TC,DC, blood sugar(R), urea ,creatinine electrolytes, total protein and albumin. All patient were studied in stable clinical state, after control of respiratory infection and heart failure. Ecocardiography had been done to conform the diagnosis. Lastly , arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests were performed.
INCLUSION CRITERIA
CLINIALLY, RADIOGRAPHICALLY AND ELECTROGRAPHICALLY SUSPECTED CASES OF CHRON IC COR -PULMONALE OF BOTH SEXES AND ABOVE THE AGE OF TWENTY YEARS, FULFILLING CRITERIA OF RIGHT VENTRICULAR DILATION AND HYPERTROPHY BY ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY WERE TAKEN UP IN THE STUDY AN INFORMED CONSENT WAS OBTAINED FROM ALL PATIENTS FOR THE STUDY

EXCLUSION CRITERIA
PATIENTS WITH DISEASES THAT PRIMARILY AFFECTING THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HEART OR CONGENTIAL HEART DISEASES WERE EXCLUDED AFTER ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY. CASES BELOW THE AGE OF TWENTY YEARS. CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS WHO COULD NOT PERFORM PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTS.
