Objectives
Objective 1: Contribution to establish human/women rights, equality, social justice, peace and social harmony and healthier society through advocacy, community development and women empowerment. Objective 2: Education and behavior change communication by enhancing awareness through media network, advocacy, lobbing, creating and disseminating of information, education and communication materials (IEC/BCC).

This was the beginning of READ. Since then we have constructed 39 libraries across Nepal, from the mountains to the lowlands of the Terai. Now I would like to tell you more about the libraries that READ develops in partnership with communities. Each library is different, reflecting the desires and needs of a community, but they all offer similar resources including:

Over a decade ago, when a trek leader commented that the thing he would most like in his village was a library, Dr. Antonia Neubauer, our founder and the board chairperson for READ Global, had the inspiration to begin READ. In 1991, six porters carried 900 books over a 10,000 foot and a 12,000 foot pass down into the tiny village of Junbesi, where most people had never seen that many books before.
