Meet the Author : Cynthia Rylant was born in Hopewell, Virginia, on June 6, 1954. She grew up with her mother and grandparents in Beaver, West Virginia.
Growing up, she liked comic books, pets, pajama parties, and the Beatles.
Now Cynthia Rylant lives in Oregon with her son and two cats.

Meet the illustrator : Mark Teague and his family live in upstate New York. He worked in a bookstore after college. His job was to set up the books for display.
The children's books made him remember his childhood. As a boy, he had written his own stories and drawn pictures for them.
Working in the bookstore inspired Mark Teague. He soon began his grown-up career as a writer and illustrator of children's books.
Today, he illustrates his own and other authors' books.
