Class Registers
All students’ names must be on the official register in order to:
- be covered by college insurance
- have a certified attendance record
- get registered for end of semester exams

De-registration: Complete the deregistration form DR1 which is available from Reception
Deferral: Contact your Course Leader or if you are an international student please contact the International Office
Complete & return to the Registrar the deferral application form, Form DA1, available from Registry or on www2.wit.ie/StudentLifeServices/deferralapplicationform
NOTE: After a deferral has been granted the Institute will endeavour to provide a place on the same Programme , however places are not guaranteed. Deferring a place may also have grant implications

WIT Alcohol Policy Waterford Institute of Technology is committed to providing a healthy and secure learning environment for students and staff.
The aim of the Alcohol Policy is to create and promote health and well-being among students and staff.
High risk drinking among young adults impacts on personal health, academic achievement & delivery and personal problems.
Acute alcohol-related problems are linked to excessive drinking and ‘binge’ drinking.
The Medical Centre, Counselling, Chaplaincy/Pastoral Care provide confidential assistance on and off campus to those with concerns about alcohol use.
Information leaflets/contact numbers of alcohol support services shall be made available in all information areas within the Institute.
Student Code of Conduct The Code of Conduct is intended to:
Safeguard the respect and dignity of students and staff of the Institute.
Set and maintain acceptable standards of behaviour within the student community.
Encourage individuals to accept their obligations to the community.
Help maintain the Institute’s good name and standing.

If you are a student with a Disability evidence of disability must to be furnished to the Disability Office – Student Life and Learning
Supports are funded through the ESF Fund for Students with Disabilities and applications, on behalf of these students, are made to the fund each October

MAP is the name of WIT’s credit-based modular system.
Organisation of Courses
Divided into two semesters which are of equal length.
Each semester is divided into modules. Modules are completed within one semester.
There is a standard five credit module, which means that there is a maximum of six modules in each semester.
The final examination for each module is at the end of the semester in which it is taught.

What is a semester?
12 weeks of class contact, at least one week of independent study and two weeks of assessment.
Examinations -
When are the exams timetabled?
Semester 1: December 2010 (to be confirmed)
Semester 2: May 2010(to be confirmed)
When are the repeat exams?
In August and after any semester in which the module is taught
Is there study time before exams?
Yes. With the introduction of the semesterised calendar, WIT has formally time tabled a study week prior to examinations.
How long does each exam take?
Two hours for a standard module.
Modularisation & Semesterisation cont’d
What is the value of each exam?
The results for each semester are equally important – the exams in December are just as important as the May exams – so they count for 50% of your final mark.
Credits are awarded for successful completion of exams.
Choice of Modules
As per course schedule which will be issued by course leaders during induction. Consult your course leader if you are unsure. Range of choice may be extended as modular system develops.
