In Australia, 11 million hens are held in battery cages The law permits each bird to be confined with up to 5 five other hens. In some circumstances each hen has less than an A4 piece of paper to move around on The European Union will phase out battery cages by 2012 In the UK, major supermarkets including Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer no longer stock cage eggs In the US and Canada > 350 campuses (including Harvard, Princeton and Berkley) have gone 'cage free’ Google, America Online (AOL), Adidas and Yahoo no longer serve eggs from caged hens
What the project involves
Convert all Union outlets within USYD to cage free eggs Convert independent outlets within USYD to cage free eggs
And this is where I would like to hear from you (Please)
USYD AWS will embark on this project early next semester It is: An emerging area of social interest Controversial Economic aspect Has anyone had experience in implementing a project to which there has been resistance and how did you overcome this challenge?
