Global Crossing causes SlideFinder downtime

by Christer 12. March 2010 23:14

The unfortunate downtime yesterday was caused by a power failure. According to IDG (Swedish article) the main switch failed at 200 Amps once the diesel gernerators kicked in. This is yet another failure by Global Crossing, the owners of the environment. Back in August 2009 we had a problem with the cooling environment that lasted for 18 hours. It is, unfortunate, that Global Crossing are unable to provide the service that we are paying for.

The SlideFinder team are sorry about the downtime and we are doing what we can to stop it from happening again.

First November 2009 feature update

by Christer 13. November 2009 14:27

Our first November update is now out and contains a minor list of of improvments.

By order of appearance:

  • Web page compression
    • All pages are now compressed to improve the time it takes to transfer a page to the user. Users in Europe and the US may not see a difference but hopefully users over in Asia and down-under will see an improved page generation.
  • Embed functionality
    • Till now you have only been able to link to presentations that you have found on SlideFinder. As of today you can also embed a presentation within your own website or blog. See below for an example.
  • Faster searches
    • We have made some improvments to the search engine that should show up to 13 seconds improvments in special cases.
  • Diminished space between slides and increased right column
