New Directions
Local Enterprise and Association Development (LEAD) Programme Administered by SPRING Singapore and IE Singapore Commenced on 1 April 2011 $1.11 million over 3 years
LEAD is a programme jointly managed by SPRING and IE Singapore to enhance industry and enterprise competitiveness. LEAD is a partnership programme with industry associations that are willing to take the lead in industry development and drive initiatives to improve the overall capabilities of companies, especially SMEs, in their industries, by providing focused and customised support at the industry level. The association must represent a key industry that contributes significantly to the economy and has good growth potential, have a sizeable membership representing the industry and a strong track record in helping SMEs. Thus, the award of LEAD to WMRAS is a very positive step forward for the association. ‹#›
LEAD Programme
WMRAS projects under LEAD are classified into a few areas, beginning at the most basic level of setting up an executive office. Other areas include: Enterprise Development Technology Capability Development Manpower Development Market Development I will go into details over the next few slides. ‹#›
Executive Office Set up full-time Secretariat Office Review Web Portal
Other than setting up a full-time Secretariat Office, we will also be reviewing our web portal to see if more membership services can be offered online. Amongst these is the plan to collate job opportunities in the waste management market on WMRAS’ website. ‹#›
Enterprise Capability
Industry Studies Annual seminar on industry prospects Seminars & Professional Sharing Sessions Recent seminars with NEA and BCA
Industry studies to address the pressing issues facing the industry, such as land needs for waste management and recycling activities, and the need to increase productivity due to shrinking labour pool. Through the studies we hope to be able to initiate industry projects to testbed new ideas. Companies are welcome to approach WMRAS with ideas. More information on the studies will be shared with the industry once ready. WMRAS also intends to organise annual sessions to bring the industry together to discuss prospects for the industry and identify opportunities and areas for business growth. Seminars and professional sharing sessions, just like the recent ones with NEA and BCA featuring guest speaker Prof Jim Baird and today’s Symposium, are useful in keeping the industry abreast of best practices overseas. ‹#›
